Pine Valley Central School Wall of Fame seeks nominations
SOUTH DAYTON - The Pine Valley Central School District Wall of Fame Committee is seeking nominations for induction into the Pine Valley Wall of Fame.
The purpose of this program is to honor graduates from Pine Valley Central School, living or deceased, who have distinguished themselves in a specific field of endeavor, in civic affairs, in humanitarian affairs, or in activities which merit special recognition. It is hoped future graduates see in these inductees people worthy of emulation.
Applications can be obtained on the website: www.pval.org or by contacting the Superintendent's Office at 988-3293 extension 3307. A nominating committee of administrators, staff and community residents will select the inductees from applications submitted by members of the public. Nominations will be accepted until Aug. 12.
A formal induction to the Wall of Fame will be held at a dinner on Oct. 1. Honorees will receive an award with a brief description of their accomplishments. A duplicate award will be permanently placed in the Wall of Fame area at the Pine Valley Central High School.
The group is also looking for individuals who would be willing to serve on the Wall of Fame selection committee. If interested, contact Superintendent Pete Morgante at 988-3293 ext. 3399.

Central Valley School District cutting bus routes - KHQ Right Now ...
SPOKANE, Wash. - In a letter sent home to parents of students who attend Central Valley elementary schools, the District stated that bus routes servicing students who live within a mile from their designated school will be eliminated. The route eliminations are part of a $3.4 million budget reduction.
According to the letter, the District receives state funding for school bus routes located outside a one-mile radius from each school. Due to the budget cuts, the district is no longer able to fund routes inside a mile radius at the expense of other programs.
The District's web site reports that a total of six routes will be affected by these eliminations and the cuts are projected to save the district more than $51,000. The bus route eliminations will impact 140 students attending McDonald, South Pines and Progress Elementary schools. The cuts only impact kindergarten through 5th grade students as the 'one-mile' rule is already in effect for grades 6 through 12.
Activity buses are also being cut from the District's budget. The elimination of the activity buses is expected to save more than $52,000 and impact more than 11,000 students. The impact of those cuts also includes the reduction in student opportunity to participate in after school activities, according to the approved budget.
Currently, four percent of the District's budget goes toward transportation.
Other reductions outlined in the District's 2009/10 budget plan are:
Reduce district office administrative staff by four positions ($435,000) Eliminate busing within one mile radius of school - impacts six routes ($51,800) Remove small appliances from classrooms/offices to cut utility costs ($25,000) Eliminate activity buses ($52,400) Reduce district-wide extra/co-curricular expenses by 5% ($100,600) Reduce school building/department budgets by 5% ($169,250) Reduce K-12 media assistant time by 25% ($68,000) Reduce paraeducator time for Kindergarten programs by 21% ($349,000) Reduce I-728 funded instructional coaches/academic support staffing allocations by 50% ($1,380,000 or 20 Full Time Equivalent positions)The route eliminations become effective September 8, the start of the 2009 school year.
The district will be holding an informational meeting at South Pines Elementary School on Tuesday, June 9 from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. to explain the changes to be implemented in September.
