2011 NFL Free Agents: Colts Should Target Cliff Avril, DE, Lions
“The Colts pass rush would be just as effective with Freeney and Avril; maybe even better”.
How so?? Are you suggesting that Avril is better than Mathis?
I’m sure Avril is a fine player, but Detroit’s DLine last season was pretty decent. They had one of the best DT’s in the league (Suh), and Vanden Bosch isn’t exactly a bad player.
that Mathis hasnt much left in the tank, as compared to Avril, and that Avril could post up simliar production in the future as Maths tails off…
Its an honest argument, prolly not gunna happen but Avril is good, and he started to show how good he was before Suh and Bosch showed up.
Mathis is still hella productive, was in The NFL Playres top 100 players but are we gunna be able to and WANT to sign a veteran of his age after 2011?
I’d much rather see that money used to address a different area. A safety or another receiver would make me happy. Any idea on Mathis’ contract and any dead money we will get stuck with? Because I’m fine with the move if it ends up to just be switching out Mathis with Avril with minimal effect on our cap room, but if it prevents us from being active else where, then that’s not okay.
What about an article about DT’s that could be available? I know that there have to be more than a few that will be FA and would be good additions to the Colts line. With a DT that could actually demand a double team the DE’s would almost always have someone free.
People forget with the Giants the DT’s were good enough that one of the DE’s usually had a single blocker. That was how they won the SB. When Freeney and Mathis had McFarland …. same deal. With the additions that have already been made, the Colts just need one stud at DT, a solid S, and some health and this team would be favored to win the SB.

2007 NFL Betting: The analysis of the AFC SouthIndianapolis Colts (12-4 SU, 8-8 ATS): Led by an offensive line that allowed little known the fewest sacks in the league for the third consecutive season, the Colts racked up an NFL record for the third conversion rate of 56.1 percent this season pass. QB Peyton Manning, WRs Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne, and running back Joseph Addai, who added 1071 yards rushing as a rookie, is back for another season. The defense who repaired a poor performance against the final race of the season, to replace a couple of posts, but has solid depth should be adequate. Sports Betting Angle: Indianapolis is 7-1 ATS the week after play weak division, Houston.
Jacksonville Jaguars (8-8 SU, 8-8 ATS): The Jaguars took several steps back from their 12-4 season in 2005 and the blame lies directly in an offense that was anemic last season. Coach Jack Del Rio fired three offensive assistants and the Jaguars choose a diet that game relying on the tandem of Maurice Jones-Drew 941 yards) and Fred Taylor (1,146 meters), having a bit of heat from quarterback Byron Leftwich, who lacks a body of quality receivers. Although a group of injuries, Jacksonville's defense finished second in the NFL. If Leftwich stays healthy and improves the offense, the Jaguars could fight for a wildcard. Sports Betting Angle: Jacksonville is 5-0 ATS in the game after a loss of two digits.
TENNESSEE TITANS (8-8 SU, 11-5 ATS): The Titans have won six seven games down the stretch, especially since QB Vince Young began to demonstrate his extraordinary talent, proving to be a player who could take over a game and things happen. Unfortunately, youth is not only in itself, now that runner up Travis Henry (1211 meters) and wide receivers Drew Bennett and Bobby Wade, the top two receivers in passing, have left the team. The defense had only 26 sacks last year, was devastated by the loss of CB Pacman Jones, now has bigger problems than man to man coverage. Even with the explosive Young, is hard to imagine the Titans back in the playoffs. Sports Betting Angle: Tennessee has covered four straight against Atlanta and Tampa Bay, who meet successive weekends, October 7 and 14.
Houston Texans (6-10 SU, 7-9 ATS): The Texans finished 28th on offense this season past and quarterback David Carr, who suffered 43 sacks, was sent packing, so Matt Schaub the starting quarterback. The incorporation of former Packer Ahman Green gives Houston a veteran runner and Andre Johnson, who caught 103 passes last year despite numerous double teams, is a quality receiver. The offensive line, always a source of problems still need a left tackle. The best defense that the season was in Texas, but just do not have enough overall quality to make a move on the scale of the division this year.
