Finally, Anthony Weiner is no longer a Member of Congress

Finally, the saga of Anthony Weiner and the Raunchy Twitpics has come to its conclusion.

The New York Democratic representative who sent lewd pictures to six women via Twitter and then lied about doing it for weeks is officially a former member of Congress. Weiner announced his resignation on June 16 at a rowdy press conference, but mistakes with paperwork delayed the actual reading of his resignation letter until yesterday afternoon. ( Things aren’t so bad for Anthony Weiner )

The letter was short and sweet, and it was addressed to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and New York Secretary of State Cesar Perales:

And CC’d on the letter were Speaker of the House John Boehner and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

For all effective purposes, Weiner was no longer a member of Congress as of midnight on Tuesday, even though his letter of resignation was not read into the Congressional Record until yesterday afternoon at which point his resignation officially took effect.

Now would be an opportune time to write your representative. Years ago I contacted my representative to the Congress of The United States, as well as my representative to the Senate of The United States. The gist of the contact was as follows: Sir/Madam, I am one of those who has hired you to represent me and my family to the body called the Congress/Senate of the United States of America. I recall from American History that the founders were wary of an Aristocracy being installed in the newly formed nation, they were insistent that there would be citizens sent to the government to represent the people. Those representatives were not intended to be life time residents of the Nations Capital. I reminded them than the only title they have earned is that of Representative to the Congress or Senate of the United States. They are supposed to be our representatives and employees not our dictators. The events surrounding the Representative from NY to the Congress of the United States drives home the point that these individuals are not better than the rest of the nation.
