The NCAA on Thursday approved a proposal to require historic teams in all Division I sports to hit an academic reference to be eligible for the playoffs, the first step in a series of promised reforms.

The benchmark will be phased in, Harrison said, starting lower and work up to an APR of 930 3-5 years. Details will be developed in the next two months.
Exceptions will be minimal or nonexistent, he said.
"It's to ensure that student-athletes are students," NCAA President Mark Emmert said.
