REFUEL brings Tesla's and more to Laguna Seca for 3rd year of electric racing
The REFUEL race returned Sunday to Laguna Seca Raceway for it's third year. This race, organized by Speed Ventures, features electric cars and motorcycles at one of the most famous race tracks in the world. Attending were owners of over 20 electric cars and motorcycles, including Tesla Roadsters, Nissan Leaf's, BMW Mini-E's, conversion electric cars, Mission Motors, Brammo, Zero Motorcycles, and more. The event featured Kleenspeed setting a speed record with their EV-X11 electric race car, as well as the first public appearance of the Mission R from Mission Motors with it going head-head against Brammo in what should be seen as a preview of next months TTXGP/FIM race, also at Laguna Seca.
It was a full day of practice rounds followed by the main event, a time trial race, in the afternoon. There were 10 Tesla Roadsters, two Nissan Leaf's, two BMW Mini-E's, a handful of conversion electric cars, the Mission R, the Brammo Empulse, at least 5 motorcycles brought by Zero Motorcycle employees, a couple conversion electric motorcycles, and a short track race car built by a Cal Poly team.
The Tesla Roadsters were, of course, in their element, being based on a Lotus chasis, and they looked great on the track. The Mini-E's and Leaf's were, of course, not in their element, being designed for "family sedan" use, but did surprisingly well in the time trial race. The winner in the production car class was Tesla employee Joe Nuxoll with a best lap time of 1:50.8, beating the next Tesla by over five seconds. We can note that Joe is also a racing instructor which doubtlessly enabled him to do more with the car than the others. In in second place was Nathan Gabriel, driving a Tesla, with a best lap time of 1:55.9, and in third was Dan Rondou, driving a Tesla, with a best lap time of 1:56.4, and most of the Tesla Roadsters had best lap times between 1:55 and 2:02.
Where the production car class (Mini-E, Leaf and Tesla Roadster) becomes interesting is the results achieved by the Mini-E and Leaf owners. Unsurprisingly, they were beaten by the Tesla Roadster drivers, but beaten by less than one would imagine. The slowest Tesla Roadster had a best lap time of 2:08.007, the Mini-E (driven by J Dow) had a best lap time of 2:08.779, and the Leaf (driven by Nader Assemi) had a best lap time of 2:10.223.
The conversion car class included a Miata (converted by Kleenspeed), two Porsche 914's, and a Fiero. Kleenspeed's Miata (they call it the Eiata), driven by their CEO Tim Collins, came in first with a best lap time of 2:22.9. Coming in second was Richard Rodriguez with a best lap time of 2:42, and in third was Richard Kunz with a best lap time of 2:52.

Uno 3 can be transformed into a normal bike with a wheel that will put forward its own. A great concept that makes me think of that Ryno Motors 1-wheel electric scooter.
Here the prototype BPG Motors seems more advanced and the startup has received funding and assistance from investors in a reality tv show (see in the video).
Its price is about $ 6000, which is fair given that you have a bike right out of the future.
